Cerys GemmaI first came to know Jesus when I was just turned 15, I had been going to church for a while with a friend, I liked what I’d seen and heard about Jesus and thought He’d be a good person to have in my life, so I invited Him into my life.

Over the next few years I went through the same struggles as most teenagers, I’d be buzzing from attending Church events and be good for weeks, then when the buzz died down I’d get back into getting wasted and just general bad behaviour. Not long after turning 16 I got more serious with my faith, gave up bad habits and started living out my faith more, and just wanting to know God more.

As I passed my driving test I started to stray from God, as I had a new freedom in driving. I was slowly self destructing, driving around dangerously as I clearly had a need for speed, at home my attitude got worse and I left, then I got caught stealing. This was a real low point for me. Then the next minute I woke up in hospital after having a major car accident. I had broken my back, broken ribs, punctured a lung, and had an incision in my liver. The first 24 hours were crucial, if my liver didn’t heal there was nothing they could do to save me. It did heal though, so they moved onto my back, placing metal rods in to fix it. The break in my back caused spinal injury which effectively meant I would never walk again.

God completely delivered me through so many things at this time though. I wasn’t in any pain really when I woke up from a coma, even though I should have been, I gained movement in my legs within weeks and it kept progressing over the coming months. When I was in rehab for 8 months, I was able to walk using aids, so this was clearly a miracle from God. God also gave me an amazing attitude and mentality through this time; it just never really fazed me, I just got on with it and kept trusting God.

After recovering I then went on to do my A-levels, I also got more involved in my church and felt God lead me to youth work and gave me a huge passion for it, which is where I have been serving for the past few years.

Through all the struggles and challenges in my journey so far, God has always been faithful, full of grace and really been my Saviour.
