What is Ignite-India?

Ignite work in India alongside Gateway ministry. They are based in Rajahmundry city in the state of Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. Headed up by Pastor Prasad, his brother Pastor Prabhakar and his father Pastor Victor, Gateway has a network of 100 or so churches in rural villages around Rajahmundry. They reach out to Hindus, train pastors and also look after a church for lepers.

Past, Present and Future

In October 2005, Nigel James visited Gateway ministry and spoke at 2 days of Ignite India Leadership Classes for pastors. He also identified 2 villages, Bhupalapatnam and Gummuluru, where Ignite churches have now been built. Pastor Prabhakar is pastor of the first Ignite church in Bhupalapatnam.

Ignite will continue to support the work of Pastor Prasad and Gateway, and in September 2006 we sent an Ignite Expedition team to Rajahmundry. The team carried out village evangelism, pastors conferences, and the first 2 Ignite India youth meetings. Another team went out in October 2007 and as well as village evangelism and a pastor's conference, opened 3 new Ignite churches, visited the second Ignite church just after it's 1st anniversary, and took part in the first ever Ignite India BLESSINGS FESTIVAL.

In June 2008, the first Ignite International team visited Rajahmundry- a team of 12 from IPFW university in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. The team was led by Campus Chaplain Ben Gates, along with Nigel James. As well as visiting many churches, the team led a conference for 90 pastors and their wives, and organised a funday for 200 local children at the Come Together Compound.

Ignite-India Youth

IGNITE INDIA YOUTH currently has over 2,500 young people signed up to the Ignite Declaration in the local language of Telegu. At the BLESSINGS FESTIVAL alone in October 2007, 441 young people signed up to Ignite!

For 2 years, our Ignite India Youth Director was V. Vinod, who is now pursuing medical studies in China, his place as Ignite India Youth Director has been taken by his brother V.V. Sagar- and Sagar is spending all his time visiting and encouraging young believers, and helping the Ignite church buildings be constructed. Ignite India uses The COME TOGETHER compound, funded partly by Third Day, as it's regular base for meetings. A school is currently being built the compound, and the fundraising project is being co-ordinated by Gill and Nigel James.

Churches

During 2007 Ignite originally committed to help construct 4 Ignite India Churches. But due to the succcess of the fundraising on Third Day's UK tour and other generous donations we will have built 9 churches by the end of 2008!

BUILD A CHURCH IN INDIA

Church buildings are important in India. Gateway Ministry has a network of over 100 churches in the rural areas around Rajahmundry, but only about 30 of them have buildings to meet in. All of the churches are in predominantly Hindu villages, and have many converts from Hinduism. Because these converts have been used to going to a temple it is helpful for them to have a church building as the focal point for their communal Christian worship. During 2008 and 2009 we will be aiming to build several more churches at a cost of only £2,500 each. You can help us in one of the following ways: Your church or youth group could sponsor a complete church and raise the money over a period of months. We will link you up with the pastor and you can keep in contact with the church. Your church or youth group could raise £500 to part-sponsor the construction of a church. Again, we will let you know the specific church and pastor for you to keep in contact. You can give us a one-off gift of any amount and we will put it towards the latest church construction. You can give a small amount each month by standing order over a period of a year, which we will allocate to one specific church.
